Mattie Hammel (September 24, 1918 - November 19, 2015)

Mattie Mae Hammel a resident of Durant, beloved mother and grandmother passed from this life on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the age of 97. She was born in Durant, Oklahoma on September 24, 1918 to Edgar Lyle and Lois Adelia (Gatlin) Berry. Mattie Berry married Raymond Hammel in Ft. Washita, Oklahoma on October 10, 1936.

Mattie and her husband Raymond were the former owners of Raymond's Auto Supply in Durant. She was a faithful member of the Silo Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for over 70 years. But most of all Mattie cherished the time she spent with her family and church family.

Mrs. Hammel is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Lon) Dillard of Durant, Oklahoma, Betty (Jehu) Lewis of Durant, Oklahoma, Linda Hatch of Durant, Oklahoma and Vickie (Jim) Prather of Van Alstyne, Texas; sons, Gary (Janelle) Hammel of Durant, Oklahoma and Rick (Nancy) Hammel of Durant, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Moses Kirby of Colbert, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Sherri (Vern) Smith of Duncanville, Texas, Pam Dellinger of Durant, Oklahoma, Terri Smith of Durant, Oklahoma, Carol (Fred) Resz of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Tonya (Steve) Shepard of Orange, Texas, Adrienne (Brent) Rustin of Ada, Oklahoma, Kim (Mike) Harkey of Caney, Oklahoma, Amy Jackson of Caney, Oklahoma, Amanda Prather of Caney, Oklahoma and Kaye Prather of McKinney, Texas; grandsons, Greg (Tammy) Dillard of Purcell, Oklahoma, Mark Dillard of Durant, Oklahoma, Mike (Regina) Ritter of Mead, Oklahoma, Sean (Shannon) Hammel of Village Mills, Texas, Tadd (Cindy) Hammel of Houston, Texas, Todd (Tanna) Hammel of McKinney, Texas, Corey (Melissa) Hammel of Durant, Oklahoma and Jason (Melissa) Hammel of Calera, Oklahoma; 40 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hammel was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hammel; parents, Edgar Lyle and Lois Berry; step-father, Clarence Kent; infant sons, Warren Donald Hammel and Raymond Harold Hammel; sister, Louise White and sister, Alma Neta Jones; brothers, Kenneth Kent and George Burl Kent; son-in-law, Farrell Hatch.

Family Hour will be from 3-5:00 PM Sunday, November 22, 2015 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A church service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, November 23, 2015 at the Silo Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Hamilton and Bro. Roger Speers officiating. Interment will follow at the Ft. Washita Cemetey. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Greg Dillard, Mark Dillard, Mike Ritter, Sean Hammel, Todd Hammel, Tadd Hammel, Corey Hammel, and Jason Hammel.
